opencomputing FAQ

What is flat fee?

Flat Fee refers to the licensing scheme under which openprotect, our e-mail filter is offered, it means it is licensed per e-mail server, but unlimited in its terms otherwise(unlimited mail boxes, domains and bandwidth).

What is OpenProtect(TM)?

Openprotect is our e-mail filtering solution consisting of Kaspersky Antivirus, Clam Antivirus, SpamAssassinand MailScanner along with our Qmail module.

What are e-mail filters?

e-mail filters are software components which sit on your e-mail server and filter out malicious mails containing viruses, spam, abuse and also custom content.

Why do you need an e-mail filter?

In this age where information rules, you cannot afford to lose it nor get overloaded with it. So with our e-mail filters, you can:

  • block e-mail borne viruses
  • reduce spam e-mails
  • block e-mail containing abusive language
  • avoid leaking of confidential information
What is our price?

Everything in business has a price, so ours is USD $1498 per server exclusive of taxes for our bundle of e-mail filters. No hidden costs and marketing gimmicks here, additional charges will only be levied if an onsite installation is needed in distant physical locations.

How is opencomputing different?

Marketing guys from some Antivirus Companies include terms like professional, enterprise, corporate etc to beef up the pricing and insist that you should buy a per mailbox / domain / bandwidth solution. We base our offering on a combination of proprietary and open source products, thereby giving you the same vantage point which you have when you choose Linux, Apache, Sendmail, Postfix, Exim, Samba, Squid, Openssh, GPG etc. Check out our open source projects page.

Why Kaspersky Antivirus?

We believe that Kaspersky gives a run for money to other Antiviruses when it comes to performance and virus detection, know the facts:

  • Kaspersky virus signature updates are done twice daily.(the most frequent of any AV)
  • Kaspersky daily updates are only of size 10KB - 30 KB.(the smallest updates when compared to any AV)
  • Kaspersky can scan for viruses in 740 different compression formats.(the most by any AV)
  • Even f-secure, e-Scan use Kaspersky 3.0 virus scanning engine while the current Kaspersky engine is 5.0 which is far more superior.
  • Kaspersky daemon loads all the virus signatures into shared memory thereby making each scan faster.
  • Finally, we give Kaspersky Antivirus at a price which you can't resist. (Hint: Try finding this pricing and features anywhere else in the world)
Do you setup Mail Servers too ?

Our focus is on e-mail filtering technology. We can work with MTAs in Linux, but that doesn't include setting it up. We'll work with your in-house Linux team, a third party, or recommend one of our trusted technology partners to create a bulletproof Linux Mail Server. Presently we are working on our Custom Linux Distro based on White Box Linux, which is built from SRPMS of RedHat Enterprise Linux

I have been hearing a lot of acronyms like SMTP, POP3, IMAP - Do you protect all these ?

Absolutely. The Acronyms you are hearing are all standard e-mail protocols. Our e-mail filtering solution works at a lower level with a mail server, so it supports all standard e-mail protocols.

What is the difference between linux and non-linux e-mail server protection solutions?

Linux E-Mail Servers:Clients who have Linux based MTA's for e-mail communications, a popular option today. We integrate our e-mail filters directly into the supported MTA's.
Non-Linux E-Mail Servers:Clients who have Non-Linux Based Mail Servers such as Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino etc and are looking for unlimited mailbox licensing. We put out a Linux based e-mail relay server infront of the Mail Server and put our e-mail filters in the relay server.

Do you work with clients outside of India?

Absolutely. Nearly 45% of our users are outside of India. Recently we worked with users in USA, Australia and Thailand.

How does a typical engagement begin?

We begin a project by listening and learning. We want to know everything about your e-mail setup. We can do this over the phone, via email or in person. Next, we put together a solid plan and start working towards your goals.

How do you get the majority of your clients?

The majority of our work comes from referrals or repeat business from existing clients. This speaks to our excellent relationships with our clients.

Can you provide references?

100% of our clients are references. Just let us know who you'd like to talk with and we'll put you in touch. You can also read what clients, industry heavyweights, and other people are saying about opencomputing.

Can I talk directly to a opencomputing principal?
